Meadows & io

Meadows & io is a chameleon - an identity in continuous change.

A maximalist, noisy and dynamic bunch with a passion for expression that lasts longer than your average four-minute pop song. Their music is highly melodic at its core, with words and harmonies encased in massive synthesizers, silvery guitars, suggestive bass and bombastic drums.

22 November 2024 Meadows & io released “Above and Below”, 15 years after their debut album Fieldwork!

This is space rock, it's psychedelia, it's pompous minimalism and hopeful sadness. A wrecked mothership drifting out there among the ruins of nebulae and pillars of void.

“Above and Below” just keeps on giving with those delicious keyboard leads and atmospheres… This is superb stuff that shouldn’t be overlooked by any prog and psychedelic space-prog nerd.”
- The Progspace

"...a cosmic journey into varied and exciting soundscapes, sometimes harsh and noisy, but also dynamic and lyrical. The vivid images on the screen and the music merged into a higher unity, and the hour of the performance felt over in the blink of an eye. The audience was panegyric in their excitement afterwards..

- Even Thunes Jensen - Kinosjef Kongsberg Kino / styremedlem Kongsberg Jazzfestival

BIO:

Meadows & io consider themselves an art project more than just a band. Devoid of the desire to follow trends and recreate what has previously been made, but with a burning need to capture fragments of emotion - tear down to build up. A place where ideas about alchemy, hidden rituals, melancholy and desperation can be glimpsed like a silver thread woven into an abstract narrative.

Live, music is synchronised with C.A.Breda-Gulbrandsen's hyper-expressive film art and creates a concentrated, intense experience where epic sounds and visual ecstasy bombard the audience . A massive collision of sensory impressions that sends you into the nebula and back.

The music that makes up "Above and Below" is taken from the audiovisual live extravaganza ORION, which has been performed exclusively at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in 2022 and 2023. After overwhelming feedback, it was decided that the music could also stand on its own in a record format, it has now resulting in the publication Above and Below.

Members:  Claus A. Breda-Gulbrandsen: synthesizers, vocals and visuals
